It was a drizzling afternoon where Team X Quiz It members arrived at ICAI for conducting the __ quiz 2013. It was an afternoon perfect for the couch potato in Chennai. A combination of hot tea and crispy vada would have lured even the most active quizzer into the comfort of the chair.
However, we were greeted with a few known faces, who had been to our earlier quizzes and others who were expecting a typical ‘business’ quiz. The audience was sizeable and many wore the look of sitting through yet another event before the next ceremony. The technical issues did as much to delay the event by around 15-20 mins. But, that notwithstanding, the QM, Arvind hit the road running. He revved up the enthusiasm with his nonchalant and cheerful style of presentation. The prelims ended with many participants wondering on the answers that were to be.
The discussion of the prelims answers, brought life back into the quiz with most audience just realising that all the answers were pretty much known to them, thus setting up the stage for the finals. The variety and the chatty QM worked their magic on the audience, keeping them glued for the finals!
The finals, as expected, was a very tightly contested one, where the jostle for the first place was evident with each passing round. Oohs and aahs became louder with each time and increase in audience enthusiasm was evident with the way the audience qns were answered ! Only towards the final rounds, did the participants and audience realised that the QM’s simple conversational style with them , itself was a minefield of clues leading to the answer of the question.
The final round was one of its kind dedicated to the new Companies Act 2013 with double the points of normal rounds. A high stakes one to decide the contest, Fittingly! No wonder, the quiz came down to its final question to decide the winner, if they answered it, they won if not, they had to settle for second best! And those who came in person, knew abt the result ( we are not going to reveal that here)! We are sure that those who came in for the quiz, were out of a rollercoaster evening! The next time we are there, they will know what to expect – Pure, unadulterated FUN!
